The original castle was built in the mid 17th century and has new wings and towers added to it over the centuries. It has served as the home of the Townshend family for 11 generations.
The house retains many of its original features including period furniture and paintings.
The Castle is set on spacious grounds looking out on Castletownshend Harbour.

There are 11 individually styled rooms at this luxury West Cork B&B. All these rooms have private bath or shower rooms and hav flatscreen TV, tea/coffee making facilities, wired internet, WiFi, and hairdryer.
The room configurations include: King Room with Sea View, Superior Twin Room, Superior King Room, Double Room, and Single Room with Sea View.
All of the rooms are themed with individual names like Archbishop’s, The Dressing Room, Navy, Army, Abigail, Chavenage, Studio, The Colonel’s, Beryl and The Gun Room.
Breakfast at The Castle
The Castle serves a good breakfast with fresh berries, breads, pastries, juices, etc. plus cooked breakfast options.
There is also a cafe at the castle. It is open daily during the Summer months and at weekends from September to December. They serve a selection of teas and coffees with homemade cakes, scones and light snacks.
